Alzheimer's is a dementia, which is the difficulty in cognitive skills, such as communication and memory, Alzheimer is the biggest cause of dementia today.
Causes of Alzheimer's:
Alzheimer's causes are still unknown, however the most plausible and accepted among them is the accumulation of plaques and tangles of two main proteins, called amyloid and tau. With these plaques forming, they impede communication between neurons, and the neurotransmitters between them, causing them to no longer send messages and signals. One of the low-level neurotransmitters in Alzheimer's is called acetylcholine. In Alzheimer's disease, some parts of the brain shrink more than others, but there is still no proof of why. One of the areas that starts to be affected is the one responsible for memory. (These areas of the brain shrink and have their functions reduced because of this). Some of the reasons that may lead a person to have Alzheimer's could be related to: age, genetics, Down syndrome, brain trauma, cardiovascular problems (this includes smoking, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol), other causes can be depression, social isolation and sedentary lifestyle.
